Iby’iwacu is located in Volcanoes National Park. Iby’iwacu is a village where 32 former poachers are now able to support themselves by serving as performers, artisans, and cultural ambassadors for guests of the Iby’lwacu Cultural Center. The center is a non-profit entity, and all proceeds go to local companies, community initiatives, and conservation activities. It is simple to stop by the center to wrap up your gorilla tracking tour in Rwanda.

Tourists to the Iby’iwacu central center enjoy drummers, dancers, and other natives performing native dance and music for center visitors, and local actors will reenact a traditional wedding ceremony. You’ll smile after watching this traditional play, which will round up your trip to Rwanda. Each participant must pay $50 USD for their performance tickets.

At the Iby’iwacu center, you can see and purchase a variety of local handicrafts, including baskets, walking sticks, and even gorilla carvings made from materials you may find in the park, like wood and lava rock.
Travelers can prepare and consume a dinner of local cuisine with their guides at the center for a more authentic experience. Learn how the locals of Volcanoes National Park use the fresh ingredients at hand to prepare common delicacies like chapati, the region’s popular pan-baked flatbread, and matoke, a dish made of sautéed plantains, potatoes, beans, and peanut sauce.

Travelers learn a lot when visiting this town, including how to make banana beer, practice hunting, and more. The Ibiwacu people constantly sell their crafts to make money, which serves as a means of subsistence.

Finally, travelers can spend a night in the center among the locals in one of three recently constructed bandas. Up to six people can stay deep in the forest for $70 per night, which includes a room and all meals, for an unforgettable safari experience in Rwanda.
